Plants with Old Fashioned Charm

There is something about living down south that inspires many people to feel a gentle sense of nostalgia for days gone by.  We see Snowball Viburnums and Hydrangeas and are transported back to Grandma's garden.  We imagine we see the colorful, chaotic jumble of flowers in her garden and smell the sweet heady fragrance of peonies and  the Jasmine that wound its way up her gazebo.  Slow, dreamy afternoons were spent on her porch swing, drinking cold lemonade and watching the buzzing bees as they got drunk on the nectar from her camellias.

Heirloom and native plants can add some old fashioned southern character to any landscape.  These plants will not only look beautiful, but they will thrive in our zone (which is 7a for anyone who needs to know).  These are just a few of the vast array of native and heirloom plants that can give your home that nostalgic feel:

  • Foxglove
  • Snowball Viburnum
  • Hydrangea
  • Mt. Airy Fothergilla
  • Magnolias
  • Old Man's Beard (Chionanthus virginicus)
  • Lilac
  • Columbine
  • Jasmine
  • Dianthus
  • Mock Orange
  • Dogwood
  • Crape Myrtle
We sell all of these plants and more and we will be happy to sit down with you to help you figure out what will work best in your landscape.
